Bylaw banning daytime tenting in Victoria parks again in drive


During the day it is again illegal to park in a tent or other structure in a Victoria, BC.

As of Saturday May 1st, the city reintroduced its statute that prohibits daytime camping in city parks.

While the statute is back in force, the city said it will not immediately impose it on everyone.

As people move into living quarters, the city says anyone who has signed up for a shelter can stay in a local park all day until their room is ready.

The city is working with the province and bc Housing to provide more than 220 temporary housing for Victoria’s homeless population.

Those who do not register for an indoor animal shelter have to pack their tents between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Victoria’s Beacon Hill Park was home to a homeless tent camp that had grown during the pandemic and sparked crime and resentment in the community.
