Dolorock Climbing Pageant 2021 returns to the Dolomites in July

The Dolorock Climbing Festival is back and for the eighth edition of the Dolomites climbing festival the organisers have devised a new formula: the meeting no longer takes place on a specific day, but climbing in the Höhlensteintal / Landro Valley can be carried out throughout July.

After a year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this summer the famous Dolorock climbing festival returns to the Dolomites. The eighth edition promises to be somewhat different and special, thanks above all to the new formula that the Gamatzn climbing club has come up with: in order to comply with anti-COVID protocols, the event will no longer take place on a specific weekend, but instead participants are invited to climb in the beautiful Höhlensteintal / Landro Valley throughout the entire month of July.

Instead of a specific competition day, participants can choose when to visit and climb in July. The five most difficult routes (onsight, flash, toprope) climbed that day are added to the online “scorecard”. Those who wish to climb on more days than just one can fill in several scorecards and the Dolorock will select the best scorecard at the end of the month.

Taking part is easy: just register online, submit the form at Sport Holzer in Innichen / San Candido and collect starter pack. The first 200 participants will also receive a legendary Dolorock T-shirt.

As every year, there will be a category for pros and one for the “mean value”, where the winner is not the climber with the best score, but he or she whose value is closest to the average. Furthermore, since Dolorock continues throughout the month of July, there’s also a prize for those who climb the most routes, regardless of the grade.

The festival is organised along the lines of an informal bouldering meeting, and participants are asked to fill out the scorecards by themselves; there are no official competition judges, and honesty and mutual trust are therefore essential for the successful outcome of he meeting.

Ever since 2013 the Festival above the turquoise waters of the Dürrensee, ie Lake Landro, and opposite the Tre Cime di Lavaredo has been a highlight of summer rock climbing in the Dolomites. And this July promises to be even better than ever before!
