DVIDS – Information – Corps of Engineers soliciting proposals for growth of Cook dinner Recreation Space at J. Percy Priest Lake

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (September 9, 2021) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is soliciting suggestions for the operation and maintenance of multipurpose recreational facilities, which include a campground and related facilities and services in the Cook Recreation Area on J. Percy. belong to Priestersee in Hermitage, Tennessee. Proposals will be accepted until January 10, 2022.

“We have seen a resurgence of Nashvillians and others to outdoor recreation, not just locally but across the country,” said Greg Thomas, J. Percy Priest Lake natural resources program manager. “The redevelopment and upgrading of the area is an attempt to meet current demand and provide an enhanced outdoor recreational experience by taking full advantage of an area that has been fully or partially operational since the 1970s.”

The multipurpose area is located on the east side of J. Percy Priest Lake and is only 20 minutes from downtown Nashville. Applicants can submit proposals for the operation of the area, the camping (RV, cabin, primitive), storage shop, toilet and shower facilities, playgrounds, dog park, hiking trails (including dog-friendly paths), cafe / snack bar, picnic accommodation, swimming area, multi-lane boat ramps, free Docks, kayak / canoe rentals, and other related activities.

“This is not an attempt to compete with or open the door to a marina or water park; that’s not our plan, said Freddie Bell, Nashville Area Operations Manager for the US Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District. “This is not a build to match initiative. Submissions in the style of marinas or theme parks will not be accepted. “

The aim of this initiative is to maintain and / or add the same type of leisure facilities as in the past in this area; however, the number of each type may increase. Examples include additional campsites, more parking lots, more boat loading lanes, more beach areas, more trail miles and loops, and more picnic tables.

In accordance with the environmental priorities of the engineering corps, a considerable part of the recreation area remains natural and undisturbed.
