Twin brothers who’re climbing the hockey ladder collectively – The Athletic

Chris and Cam Abbott have lunch in Bakersfield, California. It’s another hotel restaurant next to another hockey rink and they are asking another ECHL trainer for a chance.

The trainer tells them that he has good news and bad news. The good news is for Chris. There is a roster seat and it is his when he wants it. The bad news is for Cam.

“If you wait two weeks, I’ll have a job for you at a fruit canning factory in town if you’re interested in a job,” says the trainer.

Before he finishes his sentence, Chris and Cam turn to each other and exchange a look.

“What on earth do we have to do to take a break?” You wonder if bad news for one is bad news for both when you are twins.

When the trainer stands up and turns around, leaving them to think, tears well up in their eyes.

Chris never plays a game for Bakersfield.
